About James Walker
James Walker is an Adelaide-based designer-maker whose work is grounded in organic forms, solid timber construction, and narrative-driven design. With a background in both furniture and object design, his practice is defined by the balance of sculptural expression and functional craftsmanship. James often draws from folklore, nature, and material intuition to inform his work, with a deep respect for the tactile qualities of wood and the stories it can hold.
With a Bachelor of Design and a Bachelor of Media from the University of New South Wales, James currently works as a Furniture Associate at JamFactory in Adelaide, where he continues to refine his craft. Whether designing bespoke wooden furniture, sculptural homewares, or innovative storage solutions, he is committed to creating pieces that harmonise aesthetics, practicality, and longevity.
Installation
Option 1: Installation into Studs (Recommended)
- Locate Studs:
Use a stud finder to locate the wall studs behind your desired installation area. - Mark Position:
Remove the back fixing from the shelf. Hold it level against the wall in your desired position and mark the screw hole locations. - Secure the Back Fixing Plate:
Using regular wood screws, fix the plate directly into the studs. - Mount the Shelf:
Slide the main carved shelf back onto the fixing until secure.
Option 2: Installation into Plasterboard (No Studs Available)
- Choose Fixing Points:
Select a suitable area on the wall, away from electrical wiring and plumbing. - Use Wall Anchors or Plastermates:
Remove the back fixing plate from the shelf. Hold it level on the wall and mark your holes.
• Use high-quality plasterboard wall anchors or Plastermates rated for at least 10kg.
• Install the anchors according to the manufacturer’s instructions. - Secure the Back Fixing Plate:
Fix the back fixing into the wall using the anchors. - Mount the Shelf:
Slide the main carved shelf back onto the fixing until secure.
Note: If using Plastermates, we recommend only light, decorative loading. For heavier use, fixing into studs is essential.
