Penny Clay – Bio

Penny Clay is a Sydney based photographer with over twenty years of experience.

After gaining a Bachelor of Visual Arts and an Associate Diploma in Photography, Penny’s first official role as a photographer was at the Powerhouse Museum.

Working with graphic designers, interior architects and curators influenced both her professional and personal style, Caroline Casey’s exhibition providing the catalyst for her future projects.

“It was the collaboration with furniture designer Caroline Casey which sparked off the idea to make plant and floral studies. Caroline asked me to shoot palm trunks, monstera leaves and seed pods as support material for one of her international exhibitions.

Since then I’ve been pretty much focussed on anything related to nature, particularly flora.”

Penny’s professional career spans the corporate and advertising arenas, where she shoots local and global brand campaigns for some of Sydney’s top agencies.

She has had two solo exhibitions at the Lens Gallery, Orson & Blake and a group show at The Australian Centre for Photography.
