"To
nurture Australian design excellence and facilitate successful
commercial relationships between designers, industry and the market,
both locally and internationally."
Australian
design is amongst the best in the world.
But
who knows about it?
It's
workshopped's intent to identify great Australian design and bring
it to local and international attention. The workshopped exhibitions
are the first step in realising this goal.
workshopped
has previously held two critically acclaimed exhibitions as part
of Sydney Design Week. Last year's exhibition of 11 designers
was held at PCL Gallery in Strawberry Hills and attended by over
650 guests. Stephen Varady, acclaimed Sydney architect opened
the night;
"Their
first exhibition of five young designers for Design Week last
year was a critical success. This year for Design Week 2002 they
have returned in force and, with increased sponsorship, have been
able to gather 11 designers together for the show you see here
tonight."
The
event exceeded all expectations, attracting local and international
attention. Significantly, the exhibition provided a focus and
impetus for several designers to follow on with exhibits in London
and Milan. The work of other designers has been sold to retailers
both in Australia and Singapore.
This
year, by invitation, workshopped 03 will be located at The Strand,
Sydney. The venue will provide a spectacular backdrop to 20 designers
from around the country, who will utilise both floor and air space
to dramatic effect. Opening night will be attended by 1,000 invited
guests from media, design, retail and manufacturing. Opening night
is 5 August and the exhibition is open to the public from 6 -
20 August 2003.
workshopped
has sought sponsors who have an interest in being associated with
emerging Australian design. Our sponsors represent brands that
understand and relate to design. We sincerely thank those sponsors
who got workshopped started and who have come on board since.
